Rules

ZombieLARP type of Live Action Roleplaying Game (LARP) that involves minimal rules, and maximum fun. Players take turns at working together as a 4-6 person team of human players who must complete an objective in order to win the game. Standing in their way is a horde of infected undead, more commonly referred to as Zombies. There are many ways to finish a ZombieLARP game, most of which result in the untimely death of the human players. If you keep your wits sharp, your shovels and axes ready, and your guns loaded you may just survive…

Safety

The safety call

Should anything happen – you get injured, another player gets injured, or you feel that such circumstances may be imminent – shout STOP THE GAME as loud as you can. If you have a radio, shout it over the radio too. If you hear this call in the distance, please repeat it so that other people near you can hear it. This will stop the simulation and we will make sure that any injuries are tended to and everything is OK.

The strike system

We are very serious about safety (though not really about anything else), and we operate a strike system for people that break the rules. A first offence merits a verbal warning. A second offence will see the offender taken off the run they are currently playing. If there is a third we will remove them from the game entirely. If we see you do something monumentally stupid – kicking people, using non-LARP-safe objects as weapons, damaging property deliberately, that sort of thing – we reserve the right to skip straight to the final punishment, kick you out and tell everyone else we ever meet about what you did.

The rules

  • Do not aim any attacks at the face, head or neck. Nobody likes getting shot in the eye or catching a fire axe in the mouth.
  • When using melee LARP weapons, pull your blows. Never thrust or stab with a cored weapon, as it can cause some nasty damage. If you’re not sure how important this is, you can come and ask us and we will hit you as hard as we can with one of our LARP-safe weapons. That usually proves the point. If you don’t know how to pull your blows, one of the STs will train you. If you’re in any way unsure about this, don’t use melee weapons at all. Sometimes in the heat of battle it’s possible to forget and hit someone too hard. If you think you might be hitting too hard, you probably are.
  • Never strike, push, grab or violently touch another participant. Don’t stroke or hold them gently either, unless you’ve cleared it with them beforehand both in and out of character.
  • Do not fight on stairs. Do not run on stairs. Do not do anything on stairs short of walking at a normal pace. Do not wait at the top of stairs in ambush because, as we have already stated, you cannot fight on stairs. Walk up or down stairs in a calm and sedate fashion and resume a running pace on flat ground if necessary. Zombies are advised to form orderly queues. If there are lights on in stairwells, do not turn them off.
  • Do not open and close doors if they are wedged open or shut. Open doors gently – do not kick or barge them open as there may be someone on the other side.
  • Do not smoke anywhere inside buildings. Should you want to smoke, do it outside.
  • Do not use weapons for purposes they were not designed for. Do not use plastic guns as melee weapons. Do not jam doors open or shut with weapons. Do not use throwing weapons as melee weapons (this can lead to accidentally punching people because throwing weapons are so small). This simple rule prevents damage to kit and players.
  • Don’t drink. Drunk LARP is risky enough in an open field in the middle of the afternoon after a good night’s sleep, but drunk LARP mixed with a lack of sleep and semi-dark, cramped corridors is dangerous. Anyone deemed too drunk to play – who has become a danger to themselves and others – will be removed from the game immediately.
