Weapons
Killing zombies is a nasty business. Lucky for you, there is an arsenal at your disposal…
Important gun information
Using our loan guns
We will have a variety of loan Nerf guns available for participants playing human characters (these will be available during each round on a first-come-first served basis – be sure to bring your own to make sure you don’t miss out on the good guns!). There are a few rules when it comes to borrowing loan guns:
- Pay nothing extra. That’s right, cost of borrowing loan guns is included in the cost of the event.
- Return them in one piece. Try to take care of the guns you borrow – that means no bashing zombies over the head with them! Try not to sit or stand on the guns either. We have a giant cave troll out the back who loves a late night snack.
- If your loan gun has accessories attached to it please don’t remove them for the duration of the game. This includes:
- Tactical flashlights
- Scopes
- Extendable stocks
- Red dot sights
- If your loan gun or accessory attached to the gun stops working, don’t try and be a rocket scientist and attempt to replace the batteries or clear dart jams yourself. In this game, rocket scientists get their brains eaten. Leave the weapon at the nearest ammo cache and borrow another gun or melee weapon from one of your team mates.
- Feel free to use the rolls of green tape provided to tape your flashlight to your loan gun. This however might prove to be a bit tricky if your loan gun is a Nitefinder.
- Use the correct ammo. Each Nerf gun listed on this page has a list of dart types that work with it. Make sure you don’t use the wrong dart type if reloading at ammo caches during the game.
- We can’t guarantee that there will be enough ammo for every player to last them the entire round. If your trigger finger is really itchy, we recommend that you bring your own Nerf gun and ammo for it.
- Bring a pouch or small bag that you can store ammo in. Make sure it’s easily accessible when you’re on the run. There’s nothing worse than trying to reload on the run while you fumble around fishing foam darts out of your pockets while being chased by the zombie horde!
- Sharing is caring. If one of your team mates is out of ammo, lend them some of yours. Two guns are better than one!
Bringing your own guns
So you’re keen on going out a buying a nasty nasty Nerf gun to mow down the zombie horde? Perhaps you’ve painted it up all nice and awesome? Maybe you’ve pulled your weapon to bits and replaced the insides with super-powered springs and removed the air restrictors? There are a few rules involved when it comes to bringing your own Nerf guns to ZombieLARP:
- Bring only Nerf guns. They all have the Nerf logo stamped on the side of them. It’s not like we’re elitists or anything, but it’ll give you the best chance of survival. We know Buzz-Bee has an awesome looking repeater rifle and a double-barreled shotgun, but trust us, they’re pretty shit even when modified. By using Nerf you’ll have a good chance at getting the right ammo for your gun at ammo caches.
- Be rewarded for bringing a custom painted gun. Show your customised gun at the registration design when you sign-in on the night and have the unique ‘Gun Stylist’ achievement unlocked for your character on ZombieLARP.co.nz. Achievements will be viewable during the week after the event.
- Don’t replace the propellant/firing mechanism of your gun with anything other than spring power. We don’t want to have to send people home in body bags after you accidentally fired foam darts at their head at extreme velocities. You can search on the forums at Nerf Haven for guides on how to make these relatively easy modifications to your gun listed below:
- Air restrictor removal
- Spring replacement
- Feel free to use the rolls of green tape provided to tape your flashlight to your loan gun. This however might prove to be a bit tricky if your loan gun is a Nitefinder.
- Bring your own ammo. Make sure to write your initials on the side of each dart in sharpie so you can collect your darts later. Ammo will be collected up off the ground at the end of each round and you may collect your darts at the end of the event from bags labelled with your round number.
- Be prepared to lose ammo during your round. Chances are, you’ll fire a few shots that will get lost in the bush. We won’t be picking our way through the forest trying to find every lost dart.
- Bring enough ammo. You’ll probably need between 50-100 darts for your run.
- Use the correct ammo. Each Nerf gun listed on this page has a list of dart types that work with it. Make sure you don’t use the wrong dart type if reloading at ammo caches during the game.
