Melee Weapons
In this game, whacking a zombie with a shovel will only stun them for a few seconds. The true advantage of melee weapons is that they can be used to pin and fend off zombies while your comrades destroy them with professionally fired rounds.
Important melee weapon information
Using our loan melee weapons
We have a wide range of implements made out of foam for your zombie-bashing pleasure, the cost of borrowing these is included in the cost of the event. Foam weapons can take a lot more punishment, but there are a few rules:
- Be careful not to hit anyone with the handle/pole of any of the longer melee weapons. This can be quite painful.
- Don’t stand or sit on the foam weapons
- Pro tip: if you find a weapon to be too heavy to carry and swing, don’t use it in the game as it will just slow you down. Speed is everything.
Bringing your own melee weapons
You’re free to bring your own foam melee weapons, however if you’ve never played in a Live Action Role Playing (LARP) game before or have never made a LARP-safe weapon then we would advise against it. We will test any melee weapons you bring against yourself before we let you use them. Please present them at the registration desk when you arrive for approval.
There are a few rules when it comes to what we consider to be LARP-safe:
- The core of your weapons must be made out of a fiberglass rod or PVC pipe
- The foam used in your weapon must be open-cell foam (i.e. soft foam used in mattresses)
- There must be 2 inches of foam surrounding any core of your weapon
- There must be at least four inches of foam covering the tip of the core of your weapon
- The tip of your weapon must not be pointed
- It is highly recommended that you coat the foam of your weapon in liquid latex
